BODYSIM - DEXA Scans
Last updated March 11, 2025
Scheduling
Your BODYSIM subscription includes quarterly scans covered by us. Ideally, you should schedule the first one for 7-14 days after you have started logging food and weigh-ins. The best scenario is to have your scan after you have logged several days in the app completed.
Upon subscription we will do the research to locate the best provider(s) in your area. Not all scans are created equal and it's important that you get a good provider for this important data so we’ll tackle the research to find one on your behalf.
You should book your 2nd DEXA 3 months out from the first. We’d highly recommend you get that on the books early so you don’t have any scheduling difficulties in the future.
The provider will send you instructions but we’ve included some tips below to get the most of your experience.
Look for an email from a Well Principled team member personally reaching out to you to confirm a suitable location
Preparation Tips
- Limit activity before your scan (no exercise for at least 2hrs)
- Do NOT come in dehydrated
- You do NOT need to fast for a DEXA scan
- Workout or casual clothes with no metal are best for your scan
- You will be asked to empty your pockets and remove any significant amounts of metal (watch, belt, glasses, jewelry, etc.)
- Small buttons or zippers that cannot be removed from clothing are fine
- You will also need to remove your shoes (please wear socks)
Entering Your DEXA Data into the App
The values needed in BODYSIM are Total Fat Mass, Total Lean Mass and Bone Mass in lbs.
GE/DEXAFIT Example:
The needed values can be taken directly from page 1
DEXAFIT App Example:
You can also get the values from the DEXAFIT app but you will need to increase the number of decimal places in the app to get the appropriate precision needed for BODYSIM. Below are the screens you need to use to get the values from the app.
Hologic Example:
You will need to convert Fat Mass from grams to lbs. Lean Mass has to be calculated from Lean Mass + BMC. BMC is bone mineral content. Locate Total BMC(g) and Lean + BMC (g). Convert both values from grams to lbs and subtract Total BMC from Lean + BMC.
On page 1 locate Total BMC (g) (which is bone mineral content), shown in grams - divide by 453.6 to convert to lbs to enter into the app.
You will also need total fat and total lean, available from Page 3. Divide Total Fat Mass (g) by 453.6 to convert to lbs. Divide Total Lean + BMC by 453.6 and subtract Total BMC in lbs calculated above.
